Families can end the summer on a fun note while staying safe at a pop-up drive-in-movie experience, with a showing of In The Heights on Saturday and Up on Sunday at Mayfair shopping centre.

Proceeds from the event, which is by donation, will benefit the Victoria Hospitals Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria.

The presentation is a partnership between Fresh Air Cinema, FortisBC and Mayfair shopping centre.

This will be the 15th year that Fresh Air Cinema has served up new movies and cult classics at outdoor venues throughout the province.

Last year’s event in Victoria last year raised about $10,000 for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria.

“In a time when we’ve had to adapt to physical distancing, and when so many families and friends have been forced to spend time alone in their homes, we’re excited to once again bring the joy of drive-in movies to families across the province,” said Jason Bashnick, managing director of Fresh Air Cinema.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria will contribute volunteers to help manage the event, including running an on-site concession that will feature products from Mayfair retailers.

The suggested donation is $20 per car and pre-registration via Eventbrite is required. On Saturday, gates open at 8 p.m., with the movie starting at 9:30 p.m. for In The Heights. On Sunday, gates open at 6 p.m., with the movie starting at 8 p.m. for Up at Mayfair shopping centre, 3147 Douglas St.
